Huaneng Xuzhou Baoyuan 5.8097 MW Smart Rooftop Distributed PV Project

The 5.8097 MW rooftop distributed photovoltaic (PV) project in Jiangsu is an EPC project invested and constructed by the Clean Energy Division of Huaneng International Power Jiangsu Energy Development Co., Ltd. It is located on the rooftops of Xuzhou Baoyuan Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Liuyuan Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The PV power generation system will use monocrystalline silicon PV modules with a power output of 545Wp and above, with an installed capacity of approximately 5.8097MWp. The system will connect to the grid at a voltage level of 10KV, using a “self-consumption with surplus fed to the grid” approach.

According to estimates, once fully operational, the Huaneng Baoyuan distributed PV demonstration project will save approximately 9,280 tons of standard coal annually, reduce CO₂ emissions by 23,130.4 tons, decrease carbon dust emissions by 6,310.4 tons, lower SO₂ emissions by 696 tons, and cut NOₓ emissions by 348 tons each year.

Statistics show that over 80% of fire incidents in PV power stations are caused by DC side faults. PV modules installed on rooftops generate high DC voltage under sunlight. Long-term operation can lead to aging of terminals and insulation layers of wiring, or connection failures and poor contacts, which may result in high-temperature DC arcs.

l Rapid Shutdown: Triggered when the monitor loses power or the control switch is turned off, reducing the voltage within 30 cm of the PV module to below 30V within 30 seconds.

l String Disconnection Protection: Unlike rapid shutdown, this is an active protection, cutting off within 5 seconds. This ensures safety or firefighting needs, preventing manageable safety risks like electric shock, thus protecting the lives of installers and firefighters.

l Module-Level Arc Protection: Includes arc detection, protection, automatic reset, manual reset, alarm, early warning, and location functions. Each module works independently without affecting others, perfectly addressing the complexity due to varied rooftop structures.

l Module-Level Data Monitoring: Collects five major data points—voltage, current, power generation, working point of power generation, and temperature—using snapshots. While ensuring the reliability and safety of project power quality, it further enhances system power generation, enabling real-time remote monitoring of the power station’s operating status.
